What is Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx)?

Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) refers to a specific breathing gas mixture that comprises a higher percentage of oxygen and a lower percentage of nitrogen compared to standard atmospheric air. Regular air contains approximately 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen, while EANx typically contains more than 21% oxygen and correspondingly less nitrogen. This composition is important for divers as it helps reduce nitrogen absorption, which decreases the risk of decompression sickness during dives.
